What to expect

As each of our therapists has different areas of expertise, our staff will do its best to match you with an appropriate therapist, depending on what you hope to address or accomplish in therapy. Should you or your therapist decide that another therapist might be a better fit, we will happily refer you to someone else within the practice.

Most clients remain in therapy until they’ve met their goals and/or feel they have discovered better methods of thinking, feeling, or acting regarding their difficulties. Each client and situation is unique; therefore, therapy may last anywhere from a few weeks to several years, depending on the complexity of the issue(s) addressed. Questions or concerns about how long therapy may last should be discussed with your therapist. Clients are free to discontinue therapy at any time.

While most clients ultimately find therapy to be very helpful, it is common to experience uncomfortable emotions such as anger, fear, and frustration during the course of therapy. Your therapist will do his/her best to help you work through these emotions in a safe and supportive environment.

Some issues may never be completely resolved during therapy. If a therapist feels that no substantial progress is being made or if other factors are interfering with therapy, he or she may elect to discontinue therapy. In such situations, you may be referred to another therapist within our practice or to a therapist at another counseling center.
