Accepting New Clients - Ages 13+

Suzanne Walton, MSW, LSW, earned her Master’s degree in Social Work from Indiana University in Indianapolis, with a concentration in Mental Health and Addictions. She also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and Spanish from Indiana University in Bloomington. Currently pursuing clinical licensure, she incorporates techniques from Internal Family Systems Therapy, Adventure Therapy, Play Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and mindfulness and somatic practices. She is also trained in providing EMDR treatment (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing).

Suzanne believes in people’s innate capacity to grow and heal, and in her role as a therapist, she supports that process with compassion, acceptance, respect, and empathy. Suzanne uses a trauma-informed integrative therapeutic approach. Alongside traditional psychodynamic talk therapy, she works from a humanistic and somatic framework that explores the mind-body connection as it relates to a person’s hopes for therapy. If a client is interested, a counseling session may involve exploration through avenues such as movement, wandering the land, gardening, crafting, writing, drawing, and other forms of expression. She also offers ‘walk and talk’ therapy sessions for those who prefer to be outside and moving.

While raising her children when they were little, she worked in the nature connection movement, providing unique outdoor education experiences to children, such as making fire by friction, tracking animals, foraging, carving, building primitive shelters, and practicing archery. A deep connection to nature, the self, and others is a large part of her personal and professional philosophies. She enjoys working with youth ages 6 and up, as well as adults wanting to live their fullest, most authentic lives. Suzanne is most passionate about working with individuals struggling with complex trauma and attachment issues. She has clinical experience in depression, anxiety, emotional regulation, coping skills, life transitions, relational trauma, self-worth, shame, addictions, parenting, and women’s issues. Through the therapeutic relationship, she strives to hold a safe space to guide others to listen to and trust in their truest nature.
